Welcome to HCIC

Hood Canal Improvement Club (HCIC), based in Union, Washington, is a civic and social organization dedicated to preserving the natural beauty, history, and sense of community along the Hood Canal. Since our founding, we have worked to strengthen community connections while honoring the traditions that make our area unique.

We are proud stewards of the Dalby Waterwheel, a beloved historic landmark in Union that represents the region’s heritage and resilience. Caring for this icon is central to our mission and a symbol of our commitment to preservation.

HCIC is guided by a volunteer Board of Directors who organize a wide range of activities for our members and community, including an annual speaker series, community projects, emergency preparedness efforts, waterwheel restoration, picnics, social gatherings, and special events. Whether supporting local initiatives or simply bringing neighbors together, HCIC exists to serve, connect, and care for our community.

Hood Canal has a rich history, both economically and artistically. Union was originally established to promote logging and the seafood industry. When the resources shifted, the area focused on art and tourism. Orre Noble, among others, were instrumental in forming an artisan colony in the Union area that still exists today! Our Club continues to embrace local artisans, individuals and leaders and will ultimately expand to the greater Hood Canal area. We would love your enthusiasm and ideas on how to support our vision more. Together, let's establish committees and dedicated volunteers to enhance our speaker series, community projects and events!

Our Club Meet-Ups are typically held at the Union Fire Hall on the first Tuesday of the month from 6-7:30PM, however holidays and special events may require us to reschedule, so please see our events calendar for the exact venue, dates and times. The address for the Union Fire Hall is 50 E Seattle St, Union, WA 98592. Club Meet-Ups typically include a brief member social followed by HCIC's program (featured speaker series, ice cream social, picnic, annual report, etc.) and an opportunity draw for a prize.

HCIC has many civic interests as well, such as: beautification, safety, recreation (Union Community Park and Union's boat launch) and promoting a healthy environment. Stay informed and connected with our Speaker Series focusing on pertinent community topics like shellfish harvesting, gardening tips, speed friending, conservation and interactive artist panels. Other activities include our fundraising opportunities, annual holiday markets and social events like the membership picnics.

The Club is open to all; however, we do request that you show your commitment by becoming a member. If you are not a member you are not able to vote on important recommendations and initiatives the Board of Directors recommend.

Membership dues are $25 per individual

We believe our community can embrace who they are,
can define their future, and can change the world.
